Tutorial: Upgrade your jDownloads component to version 1.6

Here is a quick guide on how to upgrade your jDownloads install to the latest 1.6 release. Follow these steps one at a time and at the end you should have a fully working jDownloads version 1.6 running on your website. Let's get started:

 

1. Download the new jDownloads 1.6 here and save it to your hard drive.

2. Log in to your website as an administrator and click on your current jDownloads component.

3. Click on "Backup Creation" to back up your database to your hard drive. DO NOT skip this step, as if you make any mistakes, this will be your life saver.

 

4. Click on Extensions->>Install/Uninstall from your administrator menu.

 

 

5. Click on the Components tab.

 

6. Click on the jDownloads radial button.

 

7. Click on Uninstall at the top right corner of the page.

 

8. After the uninstaller has finished, it will prompt you that you are now ready to install a newer version of jDownloads.

9. Go back to Extensions->>Install/Uninstall and click on browse, choose the new jDownloads version you downloaded earlier.

 

 

10. Click Install, and you’re done!

 

If you have followed directions correctly you don’t need to do anything else here, and your downloads should look the same as they did before. If for some strange reason you lose all your downloads and your database exploded during this process, you can always restore from the backup you made in step 3.
